Tale of
Tsunagoro
Tsunagoro
Tsunagoro Kurihara, 3rd generation head of the family was born in 1864 at the end of the Edo period. As a village headman, he employed small farmers to cultivate rice in his vast rice paddies. He was a dynamic and manly man. Tsunagoro built his residence in 1929, which is now TSUNAGORO's building. Although the house was partially destroyed by fire during the WWII, it was restored after the war. It is said that the Iwa-kura was brought into the house at that time.
Iwa-kura (ēwəˈkʌr.ə)... "the rock on which the gods descend".
It is mentioned in Japan's oldest book, Kojiki (Record of Ancient Matters), and dates back as far as the Jomon period. It is a sense of the sacredness of natural objects that have existed in Japan since ancient times and can also be considered a Japanese sense of beauty.
